Marielle, the ninth member of our team

Hi my name is Marielle Buhr, i’m a 30 year old woman from the north of Sweden who has come to volunteer and help the local community in Transylvania.

Back in Sweden I work as a caretaker in an elderly home care, providing assistance for elderly people. The help I perform can vary, from helping them with their household chores to supporting them to perform personal hygiene, physical therapy and so on.

To put it briefly my job exists to give people a dignified life without having to move to an elderly home. In this way elderly people can live their life to the fullest with a little bit of help. In my spare time I am also a board member of a music association that provides concerts and various creative workshops in our town, such as graffiti painting and music writing. I really appreciate practicing any form of creative expression so during my time in Transylvania I also hope to experience and take part in your cultural life. Through my employment as a caretaker and the non-profit work I perform I get the opportunity to strengthen a sense of community in my town. That’s what I hope to do here as well. I want to make a positive impact on the local community and at the same time explore your beautiful country.

My initial time has been spent on getting acquainted with the local organizations, institutions and the people behind them. I haven’t been here for long, but I already feel a great sense of connection with the people in the town. Everyone has taken their time and really put an effort into making me feel included, even though the language barrier sometimes makes it more difficult. So I’m trying my best to learn the language as fast as I can so that I can communicate more easily with the people of Székelykeresztúr.

Besides my interest in people and their wellbeing, I also have great compassion towards animals and our planet. This is the reason why I have been a vegetarian/vegan for more than half of my life. I enjoy learning about ecologically self-sufficient living and want to continue to learn more, develop myself and gain new knowledge in this area.

I have a compassionate heart and am eager to make a difference in the lives of those around
me. I’m grateful for the opportunity that I’ve been given, to learn and to grow from this experience. I’m excited to see what the future holds. I believe that my spirit of compassion and my dedication to help others will be helpful for the people around me I hope to be able to make a positive impact on the community.
