Favorite places of Jaanus, our volunteer

Hello, dear reader!
This is my article about my favourite places in Romania.
So first of all, I have 3 pictures here of the Székelykeresztúr countryside. I love the view and the hills and the grasslands. It’s very beautiful.
Next, I have a 5 second video of Sighisoara, I very much liked it for the old town and historical aspects, not to mention there’s an epic bell tower.
Next, I have 3 pictures of the Sóskút salt baths. I found it to be an interesting place.

I mean, there’s not much to see around there in general, but one can definitely sense that it has had a lot of history and seen a lot better times in the past. I wonder if I can go into the water there? If so, I might take a dip one of these days during the summer, but I guess I will see how it goes.
During my time here, we have also been to this national park area one time. Anyway, there was this lovely lake named Emerald lake near this dormant volcano. The general area was called Complexul geologic Racoș. I really loved this place — in fact, I liked it so much, that I made one of the pictures I took there my profile picture on Facebook.
Then we also visited two citadels. We went to one during daytime and to the other one during the evening. My memory isn’t very good, so I forgot the names, but it was really breath-taking and as you can see there were some great views from the one we visited during the day.
As they say, home is where the heart is —there’s no place like home and if you have a view like this from your backyard, it’s truly fantastic.
I haven’t been to many mountainous areas in my life, so I quite enjoyed our trip during winter to the Harghita mountain region. Lots of snow and we actually managed to hike to the peak. The weather was great, it wasn’t too cold for me and I also liked the frozen waterfall. I had a lot of fun time there with my mentor Mate and everybody else who took the hike.
There was also the memorable trip to the Funeral of Carnival event. This really had an impact on me because I thought it was the most noteworthy cultural activity I’ve been a part of during my time here. It was totally different from what I’ve seen before in my life. It was quite interesting to see the whole ritual ceremony, where they carried around this effigy of hay with traditional clothing. We don’t really burn effigies in Estonia, we just celebrate the summer solstice, that is when most Estonians make huge bonfires.
We were also tripping around during Easter because we had holidays. One of the cooler places we saw was Corvin Castle. It was stunning.
I got a nice little panoramic photo of all of us visiting this citadel on a hill. It seemed to be under reconstruction, but it was nice up there.
Next up is what I would like to call the Mount Rushmore of Romania – the stone face of Decebalus Rex. Very cool — carving that face must have taken ages.
The prefecture building I saw in Craiova was also nice, it looked very fancy. Also in Craiova was this nice park with the orange dome floating on the water.
All in all, I’ve seen and visited a lot of amazing places in this country. Next week, us volunteers are going to travel about 577km by train to the Black Sea for the ESC midterm — I think I personally will really like area too, but I guess I will find out once I arrive there.
